How do you know where you are in a relationship?

ok so one of my guy friends and i have been talking for the past two or three weeks and we go out every night and we held hands and made out many times ... what does this mean ? are we going out ? or do we have to state it to each other? please help i am so confused ... Also - we are running out of things to talk about - it not awkard but i just need some topics -- if anyone could help i would appreciate it! ---- 18 Yr. old Tex. girl---
