Have your hobbies led to new insights into your martial arts?

Not the obvious training, mind you, but extra hobbies. I know from talking to some of the TCs, some do arts, some play music, some do woodcrafts... What hobbies do you have outside of martial arts that have led to some profound realization in your martial art, and what was it? Or, on the other hand, how has your martial art been able to affect your hobby?
